74 Chapter 13: Share Photos, Videos, and Blogs with Photo Station
Enable Personal Photo Station
Users belonging to the administrators group (if Photo Station's account system is set as DSM accounts) can
enable Personal Photo Station service to allow all DSM users to have their own Personal Photo Station.
To enable Personal Photo Station, you need to enable the following services first:
Enable user home service (Go to Main Menu > Control Panel > User > User Home
). See "Create User's
Home Folder" for more information.)
Enable Personal Photo Station service in Photo Station (Go to Settings > General > Personal Photo Station)
Enable Personal Photo Station in DSM (Go to Options > Photo Station). See “Manage Personal Options” for
more information.
Photo Station Features
Once properly installed and configured, Photo Station provides the below features. For more detailed instructions
regarding these and other features, please see DSM Help, or click Help from the drop-down menu in the top right
corner in Photo Station.
Manage User Accounts and Groups
When Photo Station or Personal Photo Station is enabled by DSM administrators or DSM users, they become
their Photo Station’s administrator, who can choose to integrate DSM user accounts into Photo Station, or
manage independent user accounts. To choose an account system for Photo Station, go to Settings >
General > User Accounts.
After choosing the account system, Photo Station administrators can go to Settings > User Accounts to create,
edit, or delete user accounts. In addition, users can be organized into groups for easier management at
Settings > Groups.
Create Albums and Smart Albums
Albums
Users belonging to the administrators group can create albums and upload photos via various methods,
manage albums with different functions, and view uploaded files with quality thumbnail for better browsing
experience. Click Help from the drop-down menu in the top right corner for more information.
Smart Albums
Smart Albums are special albums that automatically group photos or videos that match specific criteria. To create
a Smart Album, navigate to Smart Albums and click Create.
Manage Tags for Photos
You can tag your photos with people, locations, and general descriptions to find, view and edit tagged items with
ease. To tag photos and videos, simply click the item to which you want to add tags.
To manage existing tags, go to Settings > Photos and click Manage Tags.
Organize Albums into Categories
You can create categories to group related albums together. For example, you can create an album category
called "Travel" to collect albums that contain photos of your different trips. Click + in the left panel to create a new
category, and then select and pin albums to that category.
Share with Social Networks
When you browse your albums, you can share links and upload photos from Photo Station to your social network
accounts. To manage settings related to social networks, go to Settings > General.
