Storage Manager Limitations
Once a high-availability cluster has been created, certain options in Storage Manager will be unavailable.
Available Options: The following options are still available when a high-availability cluster exists:
Expand storage spaces (e.g. volumes, Block-Level iSCSI LUNs, Disk Groups, RAID Groups, etc).
Create, delete, or repair volumes and iSCSI LUNs.
Change iSCSI LUN (File-Level) size and location.
Change iSCSI LUN target.
Unavailable Options: The following options cannot be performed when a high-availability cluster exists:
Change RAID types.
Link Aggregation and VLAN
Link Aggregation
To configure Link Aggregation on the Heartbeat or data connection, please set up Link Aggregation on two or
more LAN ports at Control Panel > Network > Network Interface before launching the high availability creation
wizard. Make sure Link Aggregation settings are identical on both servers (e.g. if you set up Link Aggregation on
ports 1 and 2 of the active server, Link Aggregation must be set up on ports 1 and 2 of the passive as well).
Link Aggregation's failover capability can work on both the Heartbeat and data connections. However, load
balancing can only work on the data connection.
VLAN
To assign a VLAN ID for the data connection, please go to Control Panel > Network > Network Interface before
launching the high-availability creation wizard. Make sure VLAN settings are identical on both servers (e.g. if
LAN 1 is set with VLAN ID 1 on the active server, the LAN 1 of the passive server must be set with VLAN 1 as
well).
Create a High-Availability Cluster
Once you have checked the above requirements and installed Synology High Availability, the two servers can be
combined into a high-availability cluster by going to Overview > Create HA cluster. A setup wizard will walk you
through the steps of creating the high-availability cluster.
